Hi! First things first, please check the ISO downloaded correctly by using the MD5 tools provided on the download page (at the bottom). :)

Try running the "Windows Uninstallation Patch" from http://www.mylittlekaraoke.com/index.php?pages/Extras (http://www.mylittlekaraoke.com/index.php?pages/Extras). If your ultrastar.exe is read-only for some reason, that patch would fix it.

Also, it may seem obvious, but just to cover all the bases: make sure the game isn't open when installing.

Patch said it fixed, but same error.

Game isn't open.

Which Windows version are you using? Win8 and 7 can be strict about writing stuff into program files, especially if you're not on an admin account.

Try running the updater as an administrator. You'll have to open the disc contents - possibly from My Computer to see the files - and find mylittlekaraoke.exe. Here's an image that may or may not be helpful. (http://i.imgur.com/fiCsRRO.png)

(I tend to just assume that people use Windows. note to self: stop doing that)

Can you manually copy "ultrastar.exe" from the disc to your install path (on your hdd)? If it fails, it might be a bit more verbose.
You may want to check your install folder permissions too (right click, properties).

Restart from scratch.

Uninstall the application in control panels > Programs and Features
Delete the folder C:\Program Files (x86)\MyLittleKaraoke
Reinstall the main game
Install the additional disc 1
Install the additional disc 2

Can you delete ultrastardx.exe in the installation folder? If not, do what Renard said; check from the MyLittleKaraoke folder's properties that admin has full rights.

(This should give the same information as overwriting the file, but it's easier. Also, it tells exactly where the updater fails (copying or deleting): if the patcher's code is similar to that of AC2, it doesn't check if the old file was removed successfully.)

By the way, after the updater fails, what's the MD5 of ultrastardx.exe?

I deleted ultrastardx.exe and it said like this when trying install AC:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Specified install directory exists...
USDX Binary (ultrastardx.exe) not found in directory...

ERROR. PLEASE SEE LOG FOR DETAILS.

Admin has full rights.

And btw, AC2 works well...

OK, let's do it manually, then. If I'm not mistaken, the installation for the main game - 186 tracks and the game engine - works. So install that. Then load up the AC1 disc and copy the "Theme" and "Songs" directory to your MLK folder, overwriting everything. Then rightclick on the MLK folder, look for Attributes and uncheck "Read only". Rinse and repeat for AC2.
If you have problems with lagging video and stuttering audio uptake, grab the "Nightly build" here (http://ultrastardx.sourceforge.net/usdx-downloads/usdx/) and put it into your folder.

You should have 430 tracks. That means at least one of the discs is faulty/incomplete. My guess is AC1, because that's where the main data for PFUDOR is. I'd recommend you download it using torrent, because that way you can verify the download and it's the single fastest option.
